Hello Friends

I have a problem with the French 24 cm guns , all 8 French guns captured are accountive for at St Nazaire and Norway in M.K.B.'s . Could the 24 cm guns on the photo's be Italian, because in the book "Le difense Costiere Italiane nella due
Guerre Mondiali" from C. Clerici there were 4 x 240/27 in Italian use (just like the French 19.4 cm in Italian service)

Hello Jos ,
good question !
The French mobilized :
8 x 240 Mle 1893 - 96 M
4 x 240 Mle 1917
3 x 240 Mle 1884

The 8 x 24 cm K (E) 558 (f) used in Norway and France
The 3 x 24 cm K (E) 557 (f) used by E - batterie E.691 at
the Russian front
The 4 x 24 cm K (E)557/1 (f) were transfered to Italy
in august 1941 in the battery no 259 and no 260 .

The photos seems to show the 24 cm K (E) 557/1
( without the two " carry handles " ). But the
crew have German helmets - - -

Thanks Ludvig

For the complete awnser , I found on internet that the four guns Italain 240/17 were the Mle 84/17 ALVF
cann. da pos. T.A.Z. so that fits perfectly with the Italian battery's no 259 and no 260 . After 1943 the
Germans reused the guns as coast defence , but it would be nice to know were the guns were placed ??

http://xoomer.virgilio.it/ramius/Milita ... e_2gm.html lists 4 240/27 Mle 84/17 ALVF
cann. da pos. T.A.Z.

Jos do you know where 240/27 were placed before the Germans taken over them?

Sorry Dili

I have no idea , from what I can read ( my Italian is a little bit rusty  ) the guns were a sort of mobile reserve .
