Here are two intriguing pictures I’ve found on a French WW2 forum showing several AA guns in Afghanistan. They look to me like 7,5 cm Flak L/59 guns!

See here for comparison with a drawing in Chamberlain & Gander:

Wow. Did the Afghan government of the 1930s buy these? If not how did they get there?

from the same authors shows a other 7.5 cm Flak L/59 on the photo .

Hello!
An interesting find! Judging by the state of these guns, they seem still to be usable. 8O

Hello Aleks

Do you know any 7.5 cm L/59 or 7.62 L/59 from Rheinmetall Borsig that enter service in the Soviet Army ?

AFAIK, 4 (some sources give 2 guns, but figure 4 is more common) 76.2 mm. Rheinmetall AA guns with barrel length of 55 and 60 calibers were delivered to the USSR, but they were used only for experiments connected with the development of Soviet AA gun 3-K.

We know that Bulgaria obtained some of these guns from Germany:
"20 X 7,5 cm Rheinmetal Flak L/59 were delivered to Bulgaria in 1941"
(From here: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=69248)

Communist Bulgaria could have sent some of the remaining guns to their "brother" regime in Afghanistan in the 80's.

It could be a variant, but firstly, there are 4 guns in the photo which makes 20% of 20 guns obtained by Bulgaria, and taking into account events of Bulgarian history in 1940s, I think it is not very probable that such a significant proportion of guns survived until 80s. Secondly, I'm not sure that even Afghans would accept such an obsolete weapons.
That's why I think that these guns most probably were delivered to Afghanistan in 1930s or 1940s.
