Re: guns from the Spanish Civil War
The top two pictures show a Ordnance BL 60-pounder (5 in. – 127 mm). It could have been provided by the USSR to the Republican government.
The gun on the 3rd picture has something of the 155 mm L De Bange Mle 77/16 with the handle above the barrel but the breach does not match that type.
The 4th picture shows a 75 mm Mle 1897 on a special AA mounting.
The same series on ebay.de also includes this twin AA gun. Any idea of the type of gun? It looks like a naval mount.

Hi Nuytnuyt wrote:last one : Vickers 40mm twin barrel naval mount?
I considered this to start with but cannot find a twin arranged in this fashion. The land service twin had the guns mounted one above the other. In John Cambell's Naval Weapons of World War 2 there was no twin mounting on board British ships. I checked the Vickers photo collection site http://www.dockmuseum.org.uk/archive/ca ... =Armaments and could not find a twin 40mm gun mounting. I could not find anything on http://www.navweaps.com/ about a twin mounting. This does not say there were none made for export.
With the 8 and 4 gun mountings the layers stood behind the guns, with the rest of the crew, not sat in front.

Re: guns from the Spanish Civil War
Hello ,
after checking Spanish sources :
Photo 1 and Photo 2 : 127 mm Armstrong , used as mobile coast
artillery . 4 x guns at at El Ferrol CD regiment pr 1939 and
4 x guns at Tarifa .
photo 3 : is not a 155 mm M1877/1916 , but the Italian 149/35
Mod. 1910 in transport position .
photo 4 : it is not 75 mm M 97 , but a " Pichi " a Spanish
75 mm M 1906 Schneider field gun L 28 with Schneider cylinder screw
opening to right , not the Nordenfelt eccentric screw of M97 .
photo 5 : only five twin 40 Vickers - Armstrong 40/40 produced , for
the Canaris and Baleares , used as landbased AA instead .Spanish construction.

ludvig

Re: guns from the Spanish Civil War
Thanks a lot, ludvig
1) & 2) 127 mm Armstrong = 5 in. = BL 60 pdr, isn't?
3) So there's no handle at all above the barrel. I knew the breach did not match the 155/16 but it matches the 149/35 indeed.
4) Well done ! I didn't check the breach. The recoil mechanism looked to me like the one of Mle 1897. And I had only seen Mle 1897 mounted on AA platform.
