Hi Jos

I stumbled across this Korean site on the heavy German artillery at the battle of Sevastopol today whilst looking for photos of the 19.4 cm (Sfl.) K. 485 (f), http://blog.periskop.info/27?category=1. I don't know if it has any further information as I only quickly looked at the "google translated page".

Thanks Clive

A very usefull link http://translate.google.nl/translate?js ... tegory%3D1

According to this document from the book "Eisenbahngeschutz Dora" the heaviest guns above 30.5 cm did not have
any ammunition on 13-06-1942, only the 35.5 cm H. M 1 had 45 rounds and the 80 cm K.(E) ( Dora ) had 5 rounds .
The Batlle of Sewastopol was ended on 01-07-1942 , I don't know if any ammunition was suppled for these guns
( I know that 5 rounds 80 cm were send for the Dora ) otherwise these guns had no purpose during the final 18 days
of the battle .

The 502nd and 741-4 units are H.Küst.Art. units and are batteries, not battalions.

Thanks Jason

The 17 cm K 18 are logical for H.K.B. but the 28 cm H. L/12 with 741 is very typical .

Hello

Does anybody know where in Sewastopol these units had been?
Or where approximately the emplacements of their guns had been located?

s.Art.Abt. 741 = 4 x 28 cm Haubitze L/12
s.Art.Abt. 742 = 4 x 28 cm Haubitze L/12
s.Art.Abt. 743 = 4 x 28 cm Haubitze L/12
s.Abt.Abt. 744 = 2 x 28 cm Küsten-Haubitze
Eisenbahn Art.Bttr. (E) 688 = 3 x 28 cm lg. Bruno K. (E)

Greetings Saska

Hello Saska

741-744 are s. Bttr. - not Abteilungen

and they are no Heeres-Küsten-Artillerie, all are Heeres-Artillerie

(from thelist above - only 502 was Heeres-Küsten-Artillerie)

the plan was to send 2 batteries of 28cm L12 to LIV.AK
1 battery of 28cm L12 and the battery of 28cm Küst.Haub. to 72.Inf.Div.

20.6.1942 - 743 and 744 were at LIV.AK (the quality of the document isent very good, so maybe someone have NARA t315 R781 with a better scan?)

and the battery 744 had 3x 28cm Küsten-Haubitze

Was'nt the 28cm L/12 haubitze essentially one and the same weapon as the 28cm Kusten Haubitze?

yes, nearly the same, but

Küstenhaubitze used "Hülsenkartusche" (sleeve cartridge)
and
Haubitze used "Beuteltreibladung" (bag propellant charge -by:googletranslator-)and came on wooden bedding for more mobility

Hello,

The Haubitze L /12 and the Küstenhaubitze L/12 are very different:
-Hbtz.L/12 is an old 28-cm coast howitzer introduced in service in 1892 (C/92).
-Kst.Hbtz.L/12 is much more modern with brakes and recuperators, introduced in service in 1907 and the hand-books DVE nr 396.1 (Erster Teil zum Achter Teil) are dated of the 23.April 1911.
In 1919, the "Commission Navale Interalliée de Contrôle" (C.N.I.A.C) counts 37 old Hbtz.L/12 and 24 modern Kst.Hbtz.L/12 in existing german coast batteries.
Some batteries were destroyed but 17 Hbtz.L/12 and 13 Kst.Hbtz.L/12 were authorized by the C.N.I.A.C in 7 coast batteries (with 2 reserve Howitzers, one of each model) for the defence of german coasts.
Yours sincerely,
Guy François.

French had at least 24 x 194mm SP guns, did German use other 194mm SP guns in other battles in Russian or somewhere ?

And I see souces that Arko 306 had 54 x 28/32cm rocket launchers and 72 x 15cm Nebelwerfer, is it Right ? Thank
