Thyborøn DK - R621 restored

#1

Post by kstdk » 09 Sep 2011, 18:46

Hello all

In Thyborøn - the R621 bunker has been restored back into its original looks.

It is painted red and with new roof and fake windows and doors it looks like a storage building as originally made by the Germans.

There is an exibition inside about "Skildpaddespionen" (The Turtlespy) a Danish employee (engineer) at the town hall who made double drawings of alle German bunkers and smuggled them out to the resistance. He got his name because of his mark - a pipe smoking turtle - on the copies of the drawings.

Some pictures of the "new" bunker taken today :D

regards
Kurt

I was there last Friday.

The bunker is part of the Kystcenter now, isn't it?
I didn't want to pay just for the 621, so I wasn't inside. :P

Btw, this is how the old exhibition bunker (also a 621) looks now.
The Atlantikwall exhibition has been moved to a nearby barrack.

Hello TH

Yes it is part of the Kystcenter - and the entrence fee is 90 Dkk - so I did not get in either.

But I think the exibition about the "skildpaddespion" is quite interesting, so maybe next time. Also I think they have an other exibition it a container outside about the Thyborøn Festung?

Kurt,

Correct me if I'm wrong but I got 2 times a 621 at Vrist which are camouflaged as a shed/house.

That is correct.

Also the three 668s in the center of Thyborøn were camouflaged very similarly.
