Re: gun on truck
The guns are 10,5 cm leFH 18(M). The trucks look French (I think there is a Renault truck in the middle) and must have been commandeered (the one of the left still shows its owner’s name). According to the ebay caption, these pictures were taken in Normandy but there is no date indicated. It could indeed be in the Calvados area based on the shape of the church’s steeple (and the orchard).
In English, a gun transported in the back of a truck is called a “portee”. It comes from the French “artillerie portée” i.e. “carried artillery”. This means of transportation allowed in particular to carry horse-drawn guns over long distance at much higher speed but also through difficult terrain. The practice started in WW1. In WW2 it remained an alternate to placing the gun on a wheeled trailer.
Here is a sequence (from ebay) showing a 10,5 cm leFH18 being installed onto a flatbed truck. It required a lot of manpower !

Hi all,
It is curious to see the old wooden spoked original wheels on these 10.5cm leFH18M howitzers (in Jopaerya first image)

Good point about the wheels the 10.5 cm le FH 18M did have spoked wheels but with a heavy rubber tyre.

Here is the 3rd picture of the series in the ebay auction. It shows a 10,5 cm leFH18M gun with the same wheels as the gun on the picture with the camouflage netting.

P.S. Jos, I think it would still be called “motorized” transport, not “mechanized” as long as the guns had to be "dismounted" to fire.

Re: gun on truck
Jos,
I think I have found a "mechanized" version of a gun on wheel: the "7,62 cm FK296(r) auf gep. Selbstfahrlafette (Sd.Kfz. 6/3)" in the Afrika Korps:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/deckarudo/ ... otostream/
The gun indeed retained its wheel as shown the destroyed vehicule:

However, I don’t think that the gun was intended to be dismounted by looking at the rear of the vehicule here (a wheel is also visible on the side) and due to the fact that the split trail seems to have been cut off on the previous picture.

So it would not have been a “portee” gun in the strict sense.

Re: gun on truck
The 15 cm sIG 33 auf Pz Kpfw 1B was another earlier German SP gun where the whole equipment was mounted on a vehicle but was not intended to be dismounted in action.

Re: gun on truck
Sorry, going back to Manuferey's post of 04 December 2012, could anyone elaborate on why they think the photo is of an Lefh 18/M. I would think that that would be because of the cover over the muzzle, although that is a bit unclear. Are there any other distinguishing features? Especially as I thought that Lefh 18/Ms did not have the old type of wheels.

Regarding my post of 4 December 2011 (not 2012 yet ) I identified the gun as a leFH18(M) because of the long cover over muzzle and the fact that the picture belongs to the same series as the "portee" guns that definitely show the muzzle typical of the M version. The muzzle cover of a leFH18 is shorter (see the last picture posted by Jos for reference). There are many pictures of leFH18(M) with the same type of wheels.

Re: gun on truck
Thank you very much Manuferey. I bought this photo on the suspicion that it was an lefh 18(M) so your thoughts on why you believe it is one are music to my ears. I must admit that I am yet to see an lefh18(m) with the old type of wheels, which is why I raised this issue in my previous post.
