Pantherturm

#1

Post by Umberto Gorena » 31 Dec 2011, 23:26

Hi friends.

Awaiting the end of this year I have have gave a look to an old topic about the Pantherturm. On it are listed
how was built these very particular fortifications: steel chests, concrete bunker and woodden one, but i have a photo
of a turret placed on a steel frame (like a box but without walls). All the whole is placed on a stack of crossed wood
beams. It is not mentioned in any documents. Then, is interested the third fhoto of the third page, is a Panther-Ost_
wallturm placed on a dug in Panther hull.

Have all a beautyfull year

Hi Gorena,
I think that frames are only for transport and storage. I know such frames from different pics.

The well known photo of the Panther turret on a steel frame was taken in the Bois de la Bolles near Salles in the Saverne Gap after the Alsace fighting in the autumn of 1944. The steel frame was only for transport purposes. The turret was supposed to be mounted on a special bunker being constructed nearby, part of the local fortification effort. Here's a photo of the incomplete bunker and a drawing of the bunker from an Allied intelligence report.

Hello searay,

Very nice and rare picture of Regelbau 687 - AFAIK very few of them were built.
It's also first time, when I see it!

Here's a clearer photo of the Panther turret for the Saverne Gap bunker and also a photo of the test bunker at the Hillersleben proving ground.

2pcs reported is more than one, so it's "very few". :-) But besides reports - who knows..
