radarsite Jobourg
Re: radarsite Jobourg
The ebay auction included a third picture below:
It could be the lowest floor of the building with the sleeping quarter for the crew. If this is the case, it seems weird that a dummy station would be attended by a crew.
Also the amount of work that has obviously been put in the construction of the first floor including the wooden boards on the ground and the large number of sand bags seems too great to apply to a dummy construction.

Re: radarsite Jobourg
Hi,
It was SOP for the LW and other services to have some sort of activity at a decoy site. Personnel moving around would create track, which would be kept fresh and they would appear on APs. Some sites had a manned bunker from where various sort of lightning and pyrotechnics were controlled, and some were even defended by Flak. Decoy sites were an art for the Allies and Wehrmacht alike. For an in depth description please see:

In this particular case I based my assumption on the fact, that the antenna construction is made up of bit and pieces, which seems to be screwed together and not full length braces. And in this case the personnel could be present in order to turn the antenna at irregular intervals, if it remained stationary, an observant PI would eventually become suspicious. And since it was made to attract bombs, the sandbags makes perfect sense

Hi,
There was also a Mammut and presumably a L 485 at this location, we seem to have missed that.

Re: radarsite Jobourg
Hi Dirk,
I have been passing by the coastwatching station but no sign of the L485, is the bunker still there?
Is the L485 in use or did they just place the new building on top?
JK
