A part of the trenches we cleaned, in total there are more then 4km of connected trenches left in this condition in this same area!

This armoured plate is very interesting. I have seen very similar in fortifications of Seile river (at south of Metz build about 1916). Unfortunately only as a photograph. below You will find a drawing of shelter for infantry and concrete observation post which are present at the same fortification line (mentioned above). Those drawings are taken from book Christian Dropsy "Les Fortifications de Metz et Thionville".

Do you know why that unterstand below is designed for 52 persons? because we have also a type "U" which was designed for 18 persons, but this is only possible if everyone stand straight...

Was an unterstand back then designed to sleep inside, or only to take shelter during a bombardement with the entire 18 or 52 men strong group? because if they sleep inside, the bunker is to small unless they sleep in shifts of small groups...

For that moment I can't answer to Your first question, because I don't know. On the second one I have to check it in materials. When I get some information I will share with others.

Thanks in advance! because the germans of WW2 closed all bunkers to prevent enemy forces could re-use them during an assault on Antwerp, they also took away all materials inside before closing. So we have nothing left to see how such bunker looked once inside.

Here another one, this is Infanterie Beobachter "IB 13" which was equiped with the same armoured coupola. Unfortunatly this bunker lies more towards public/urban places, so the plates in this region are all allready dissapeared.

A group of "IB 13", "ZF 4" and "U 32".

Its the smallest, but probably the most beautifull design, this "IB".

Here you see the thickness of the plate (3cm).

Still closed with the german brick wall of 1943.

The interior of I WW bunkers (especially this build during the war) was very simple. Some of stuff were taken from houses or flats located in neighborhood of bunkesr. I will try to find some drawings of interior equipment of bunkers from 1900 period, but it takes a little time.

Looks a lot like these "klappbetten" in the german Panzerbatterie Plappeville Nord (Metz), which was build around 1895.
