38 cm SKC/34
Re: 38 cm SKC/34
The letters a, e and f are parts of a system used in the mid 30-ies as a some sort of code to indicate the caliber intervals for use on planned new ships relating to the C/34 family of guns. The actual caliber in numbers was not used in the early studies, only the C/34 plus letter. Later the letters for a period of time remained in use together with the open full denomination of the guns, but shortly thereafter dropped.jopaerya wrote:Found this in a report from 1938 , the 38 cm S.K.C/34e and 38 cm S.K.C/34f
who has any idea what the e and the f means or it's nothing special ???
Regards Jos
The code C/34 a was used for 20,3 cm SKC/34 in 20,3 cm Drh.L.C/34
The code C/34 e was used for 38 cm SKC/34 in 38 cm Drh.L.C/34
The code C/34 f was used for 40,6 cm SKC/34 in 40,6 cm Drh.L.C/34
I have not seen other codes in use but I would expect the 28 cm, 30,5 cm and 35 cm caliber options to have carried the letters b, c and d.
