German panzerturm in Antwerpen

#1

Post by Bunkerfreak » 16 Jul 2014, 23:24

Hello,

Today i found this beauty in the military range of Brasschaat (North Antwerp).

Is it what i think it is?!! An up-side-down panzerturm? anyone a clue about the type?
in the same terrain i found also an 20cm thick german 78P9 armoured shield !!

Still many secrets in our beloved Antwerp

Today i heard that in the same (huge) area an Panther-turm must been hidden... There are many wrecks where the Artillery still fires on (its an active military terrain). Some years ago i heard that there where recovered some kettenkraftrads. Now i hear about the panther turm, i hope i can find it soon!

Going by the raised inner ring around the opening it could be an upside-down observation cupola. Cool find! Did you measure it?

Maybe you can identify it according to the bolt/screw holes in the thick ring? I have no measurements, but next week we are working again in the same area, so i can measure it then.

Hello,

Nice ! It could be a turm for M19 the wrong way round or a sockelring ? It is intriguing that it remain filled of water if it is a sockelring.

Perhaps a closing mechanism is still intact underneath the water? or its closed by the Belgian Army so it fits his new purpose as waterstorage?

Hi Tom,

it is a great find. There is also an information about the German observation cupola of the "rare type", partially buried at the fort KRUIBEKE. Do you know anything about it?

Hello Ondrej,

Even this sounds new for me, and i live less than 10km from that fortress! I know it is an active military domain where i can't get inside. But i know someone who works there, next time i see him i'll ask!

Thanks
Tom
