When talking of rangefinders in 636, I noticed an unusual fixture inside the observationroom of the 636 in HKB Kryle... In the book "Atlantvolden ved Ringkøbing" there is a photo from the same room showing a quite big rangefinder attached here.
Never seen this in any R636 ceilings in Norway (or elsewhere for that sake)
Comments?? :-)

Hello Erik

I have seen this also in K.M. Leitstanden a hanging rangefinder , must cheaper
and more room then a central pivot , but I can't find the photo right now .
That was also my intention for the quistion on the observationplatform with
or without top, if you see how many different and captured guns the H.K.A.
used it must be the same with the types of rangefinders they used on the 636 .

Regards Jos

As the name says the device was used to alarm the gun positions
most likely through an alarm wecker (alarm bell). Each time the crew
crew loaded the gun they could indicate this.

Hello

The standard function for a 636 was a command post for a H.K.B. with a range meter on top ,
in France I also found solitair 636 were the top emplacement was dervided in 2 small parts ,
with flak and even a Würzburg Riese on top ( Naval radar post ). My quistion is could this bunker
also used for other functions like a Marine Signal Stelle or command post for M.A.A. ( St Malo ) .
On the photo from S.H.M. you can see a 636 with a naval 3.7 cm Flak on top .

Hi Jos,

Is there any chance you could post the link to those pictures please? I tried to find them on ebay, but could not - if they are still for sale i would like to get a copy. Thank you
