Regarding the 12,8 cm. Flak-Zwilling 40 (o) 38 pcs.
"Der 12,8 cm. Flakzwilling 40 war vor allem zum Objektschutz in Grossstädten ortsfest auf Flaktürmen eingesetzt"
It is mentioned that there was 4 pcs on each flakturm - 3 x Berlin, 2 x Hamburg, 3 x Vienna = 32 pcs.
Where was the last 6 pcs? Just for "spareparts" ? Or what.......
Next two possessed 3/219 Schwere Flakbatterie Gotenhafen-Koliebken (Gdynia-Kolibki).

Excellent!
There is an eyewitness report of the Marineoberhelfer Joachim Blödorn on p.414ff in Henrik Schulze's excellent

Re: Big AA guns
Hi Jos,
Thanks a lot for a nice shot. Single barrel and a grenade sitting in the fuse setter. I'm a bit dubious about the location. Wasn't Leuna in the Soviet occupied sector, the soldier is from the US forces.

Re: Big AA guns
Hi SES
Sharp view , a possiblity could be that the photo is taken during the United States Strategic Bombing Survey at Leuna .

This same photo appears in "Armor at War Series" - Panzer in the Gunsights 2
The author stated that this gun was defending a Hermann Goring Steel Works in Leuna and fought against the CCA/2nd Armored division before it was taken out on April 10, 1945.

Hi Rouse713
You are right the American and Russian troops met each other at Torgau ( Elbe ) in 1945
and Leuna is before Leipzig from our side and Torgau 40 km further then Leipzig .

Re: Big AA guns
Hi all,
I found these three photos of 12.8cm Flak gun being assembled in field :
Does anyone know how the barrel was inserted in the mount during assembly?
It appears that the tube had to be lowered to the ground on a metal support (" coupling rack") to then be hoisted ???
See image 2
Interestingly this is a static gun, not the initial mobile version, for which was developed the Rohrwagen 40.

Re: Big AA guns
Hi,
Interesting shots. Could the 8,8 cm Flak on a Sockel Lafette be taken apart and assembled in the same manner?
