Berlin flak towers
Berlin Flak tower
Would anyone have any idea of the location of this Flak Tower? I believe it is one of the Berlin Flak towers. It would seem to have had one of its entrances blocked over, maybe for ground defense?
Re: Berlin Flak tower
Well, it's a Bauart 1 G-Turm, I'd say it's Berlin Zoo one (Hamburg Heiligengeistfeld as well as Berlin Humboldthain and Friedrichshein had different balcony for light flak, I think - Heiligengeistfeld did not have circular bays for guns in the corners, just in the middle of the sides, Humboldthain did not have them at all, and Friedrichshein had significantly bigger ones).
Re: Berlin Flak tower
Could it be try-out for this planned external ornament ?

Re: Berlin Flak tower
Yes, it could - it looks rather as an unfinished part of a wall layed with brick and stone, that had to be continued, than anything blocked. I just wonder what would be placed in the space between the brick and concrete walls? Just a blast protection?
Re: Berlin Flak tower
Here's another photo I found on the web that seems to show the structure with decorative element.

Re: Berlin Flak tower
I saw a show on History I think that showed the towers today. They were so sturdy they resisted efforts to destroy them post war.

Merged two threads on the flak towers.

Hi,
It's Flakturm am Zoo, north of Tiergarten. Another picture (reverse from the other)

Re: Berlin flak towers
Nice, the decorations are excactly the same as on the maquette Jos placed..
Assumption:
After the war was won, the flakturme would be decorated in the favourite historical style to fit in the supercity "Germania".
Awesome to see they made this prototype
