Given the mass of 12,8 cm projectiles the kinetic energy is liable to take the turret off if it penetrates or not.

12,8 cm Flak 40 could penetrate with its 12,8 cm PzGr. Flak (APC type) 201 mm of armour at 100 m range, 132 mm @ 1500 m and still 120 mm @ 2000 m.
The only problem was, the 12,8 cm Flakzwilling 40 could not be effectively used against tanks, as the gun had no provision for an optical sight and could be used for indirect fire only. What's more, the 12,8 cm Flakzwilling lowest elevation was 0 deg,, so the guns placed on the Flaktuerme could not engage ground targets at distances appropriate for anti tank combat.

I always wondered what the original German plans were for these massive buildings. Though I suspected something like this, I never saw the plans. From an architectural point of view this looks so much better than what they are now.

I look at the enormous amount of effort, explosives and noise that must have gone into destroying bomb-proof buildings like that... and its seems like an even bigger waste than building them was.

Why didn't they just leave them, or use them as a foundation for something bigger and better?
