Nice picture @ndrew , here a other one of the Panzer on top of the Flakbunker were the rounds were transported
with a lift from the inside of the Flakturm to the guns on the roof . Please note the "small" door that is so easy to open .

Hi,
The Germans were very concerned about ammo "cooking" off, i.e. a sympathetic detonation of storede ammo caused by an enemy shell or bomb. Hence the serious protection.
An the fear is real. During the First Gulf War when Iraqi tanks were hit in the crew compartment, where the ammo was storred in the turret, all the ammo exploded at the same time and caused the turret to fly ten meters.

Here is the cover of a copy of the "Berliner illustrierte Zeitung" number 2 january 1943 that is in my collection.
Unfortunately there are no more pictures of the flakturm inside.
