Shields used in a 35P8 copular??

Postby Erik E on 14 Jan 2005 00:44

Hello!!

I need some assistance with these shields......
They were found inside a R634, just under the weapons platform in the 35P8.

We suspect that it might be something to adapt captured weapons in the copular, e.g. if the original MG-34 ball mount doesnt fit.......

Any comments most appreciated!!

Hi,

This is the so-called Schutzschild which had to be placed directly behind the ball of the ball-mount (Schartenlafette 34.) It was used as an extra protection for the gunner when the the mount was lowered or just in general when the ball-mount was in the loophole (to protect agains shrapnell). 8O

It's one of the most rare and collectable parts of the lafette.
I know of only 4 exemples, two were robbed from the Fortress Island in Ijmuiden ages ago :x

 Erik: please take this item from theif that you can keep the shield in protective custody
untill this or another 6-Schartenturm is restored. There are to many hawks who will travel from German, France, Holland or wherever to get their hands on this part.

While we are at it.....

Here is another strange "adapter", this time for a 7P7, 726aP3, 492aP2 kombination......

Looks allmost homemade, but it fits perfect to the hole in the steelplate, and can be attached from the inside with snaplocks......

Seen anything similar???
