The WWI batterie Aachen at the same place, named Stp Bensberg during WWII
The fire control was used as controlpost for Stp Hannover at Leffinge.

restauration radar

Great news!

the Würzburg Riese Radar of the domain 'Raversijde' will be fully restored and reconstructed (now laying in different pieces) by september 2014 and it will be given a prominent exposition location to serve as an eye-catcher for the people (and of course to make people curious about a visit to the domain with it's bunkers and trenches from both WW's, it's mediëval museum and nature reserve)

two links in Dutch: stating about the same as writen by me just now...

other recent news from Raversijde: some photo's of the removal of one of the searchlights also to be restored (together with the telemeter which has also been removed for restauration)

SPECTACULAR UPCOMING NEWS

Just some weeks ago the Province of West-Flanders which runs the domain of Raversijde, bought one of the small patches of private ground neighbour to the domain itself... on it is standing this abandonned house;

Although I had a feeling something could be hidden on this small patch of private property (as is the case with another neigboring patch of private ground), I could not have expected that underneath this house is hidden the largest bunker of the entire battery! The bunker served as a hospital and was used post-war as a bar for sometime to be forgotten later on by main crowd and apparently for the larger part of us bunkerfanatics to... I guess, as I don't find anything written about it.

As the house is quite big, so must be the bunker hidden underneath it... I saw the house several times in realtime and in my opinion (hope) it could large enough to hide a R118 (or other hospitaltype) underneath. Apart from this photo, not much more information has been published... but I'm waiting eagerly. In the meantime, those who have information to share on this bunker... please do! (Thanks ahead)
(As I also work for the province I will do my best to get some firsthand information on this bunker)

Hello Jean,

Sorry but no R118 there! I visited this bunker a few years ago and it's a unique early marine bunker.
Inside, there is unfortunately not so much to see as this bunker has been deeply modified to be used as a discobar in the 60's and 70's for the nearby campings. Floors have been deepened with the use of explosives, innerwalls have been destroyed and new doors drilled into the walls. Hereuder a plan of this bunker in its original state. Next to this bunker, on the left side, the brick building is also German as well as the KSS type 5 laying in the next private property and integrated inside a holiday house.

I did actually plan to bid on that plot ... Initial asking price was 160.000,00 € (way too much)... The Bunker itself was allready listed as heritage ...
I did suspect that bringing it on the market was a smart move from the owner to have it sold to the province...
The little plot of land next to it (with the abandoned bungalow and caravan) also hides a smaller bunker , and trough the bushes you can also recognize some brick construction on the slope...

So far for my dream of a holiday home at our coast

All in all I think it's a good thing that these remaining parts are now added to the museum , most of all for the conservation of it.

The whole thing on top of it was built illegally (common Belgian practice) and the danger was always there the the government would have acquired it at the end
