In the middle of 2008 the two “Danish” cannons were restored and painted. Today both cannons are very interesting exhibit of museum... but some people questioned of pre-war Polish origin of guns. I ask to help – maybe artillery experts of AHF something to knows about thats guns.

I thing the cannons from WW2 Scharnhorst Platz's photos this is the same guns that are exposed today in Polish Navy Museum in Gdynia.

Interesting website about coastal artillery defence on the Hel Peninsula http://hela.com.pl/armaty.htm

The three photos below: Restored “Danish” wz.26 cannons in Muzeum Marynarki Wojennej in Gdynia today.

Yet again, I would ask to help for a correction in the names of those guns and proper names. Does Schneider offer during 1920's a 105mm cannons market as Mle 1923 and Mle 1926 ? Perhaps the guns were only Schneider's prototypes or limited production for test to potential customers. Meybe later this type of gun was transformed to Mle 1925/1927 (Greek M1927) and Mle 1930 (Danish M1930) (?).

Did the Germans used the guns after captured them ? When the Germans set them on the Scharnhorst Platz ? Maybe someone knows something what happened to the guns of “Greek” Battery ?

Wikimap of Hel Peninsula with military objects:

http://wikimapia.org/#lat=54.6167163&lo ... 5&l=28&m=b

I recommend especially the details of the wikimap appear larger. 8-)

Regards. Stan

Stan,

I cannot answer your questions but I find Schneider's designation of export guns often confusing (see the 75 mm guns). Here is a German picture (from ebay.de) of a 105 mm Schneider gun (I assume it's in Denmark so it would be a Mle 30 but nothing is sure):

Emmanuel thanks for Your photo. I think that the picture is the Polish city of Gdynia (German changed the name to Gotenhafen during occupation of Poland) and Polish cannon Schneider 105mm wz.26 (so-called as wz.D) from "Danish" 33rd Coastal Defence Battery.

Please compare photos of number 2 and 3 of my post number 8 (page 2 of this topic) that present Grunwald Square in Gdynia in 1948. In my view, images are captured clearly at the same place !!! :)

Hello, Stan and others.
Is anything known about German designation of "Danish" and/or "Greek" guns captured from Polish coastal defence? I can't believe Germans hadn't given them Beute numbers.
Thanks in advance.
With best regards, Ilya.

Hi ain92

Beute numbers were only given to army equipments. Coastal guns were naval weapons and did not always get Beute numbers and Flak were Luftwaffe weapons and rarely were given Beute numbers.

Another oddity was captured Czech and Polish weapons were not given Beute numbers either.

So there are two reasons for these guns not having Beute numbers, Polish coastal guns.

Thank you, Clive, this's very educational information. But how did Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe denoted such artillery on the maps, schemes etc. if it hadn't been designated?
With best regards, Ilya.

Just for the record the Danish 10.5 cm M /30 L/48 Schneider guns were labelled as 10.5 cm K 321(d)
