Er... I can just hear a Russian pilot ask himself: "What's with the really tall, oddly shaped corn stalk pile?"

hello Jos,

i'm sure its correct.
if you want concrete infos i have to check some of my nara-books.

the I./84 starts the campaign against poland with 4x 24cm K.3 ( i think only 4 of this guns exist in September 1939)
until end of september they lost 2 of them
i'm searching for informations about losses - were it total losses or just short repairs/long term repairs....

Hi Emmanuel

Your memory serves you well , I know the document but the Kz is not the same as K 3 .
Maybe a typo , I was thinking that the Kz means Kürz . Any idea were these 24 cm K 3 were
placed in 1940 in the Wissant area ?

hello Jos - i think

kz. = Kraftzug
and the
(1) by II./84 = Bettung

so this document shows the difference between the 24cm K. of I. and II./84

From what I found on documents and picture's the II./84 was equipped with s. 24 cm Kanone (t) ( Cap Griz Nez )
and we can conclude the that the I./84 was equipped with 24 cm K 3 gun ( Wissant ) end 1940 and maybe early 1941 ?

Photo's = Ebay

The place should be between Sombre and la Mine d'or (woods east of Wissant), during 1940-41. It could have been the place occuped then by the 3./832 HKAR later in Spring 41.

Very interesting documents, thanks a lot.

Could it have been a late change in the batteries names ?
This Map of 1941 shows the 3./832.

Nice to see the I.and II./84 and s.A.A. 767 were replaced by Heeres-Küsten batteries ,
looks these batteries were pulled back to be used during the Operation Barbarossa .
