We think that this photo is from M.K.B. Quai d' Escale also a M 270
but with a special straight front in the bunker ( normely this is round )
For the text .it's looks like "Stu..." , the guns of this batterie are 2 x
10.5 cm S.K.C/32U . The date of the visit should be 24-04-1944 .

Hello All

This looks like a still form a "Wochenschau" as you can see Gen.Feld. Rommel in the M 270 of M.K.B. St. Adresse
left you can see the 15 cm Tbts.u.Uto.K. L/45 , see also the hanging wooden planking on the roof ( also on the
photo from the Signal on page 1 ) to protect the troops from aircraft m.g. fire and shrapnel .

Hello All

I have some quistions about this M.K.B. , there is command/observation bunker called Emden
in the battery area , but I have also seen picture's of a other command/oberservation post M 157 .
Does somebody know the exact spot were the M 157 was build ??

Hi Jos,

The M157 was situated behind Hotel Dufayel, on the Eastern part of rue de l'Hypodrome in Ste Adresse. I have doubt about the use of M157 for Seeko Seine Somme. I think it's probably the Leitstand of batterie Ste Adresse...but no proof of that for the moment.

A other Le Havre quistion according to some this should be M.K.B. St Adresse , but as far
as I know the 15 cm Tbts.u.Uto.K. L/45 did not had a gunhouse . Or is this a other gun ??

I agree with you. The 15 cm Tbts.u.Uto.K. L/45 was not mounted with a shield.

I have noticed that the muzzle of the gun is slightly flared: it could be the barrel of a 138,6 mm Mle 1910 gun of the Dollemard battery, not far from Cap de la Hève. The guns were indeed protected by shields and installed in circular concrete positions before the Germans moved them to MKB Petrolhafen in the harbor. However, the shape of the shield on the picture does not seem to match perfectly the shield of the 138.6 mm gun.

Besides the 138.6 mm gun, I do not know any other type of gun with a similar shield in the coastal batteries in Le Havre.

I have just received Alain Chazette’s new book “Les batteries de côte en Normandie”. I have compared the barrel on your picture above with pictures of the 15 cm TbtsK L/45 of MKB Ste Adresse. The barrel looks exactly the same and has the same light color. So, the Germans had somehow really adapted a shield around the guns at MKB Nice Havrais before building the casemates SK.

Interestingly, the archive pictures I could find show that no shields in front of the guns once installed in the casemate (see for instance the picture you posted on 23 Aug 2008 in this thread. In addition, on other pictures, the light color of the barrels has been removed.

Separately, I have found 15 cm TbtsK L/45 guns mounted behind shields on the German Torpedoboot S113 class of WW1. Other German torpedoboot classes seemed to have 15 cm TbtsK L/45 without shields.

I wonder if the designation with the shield was:
“15 cm Tbts. K.L 45 in 15 cm Tbts.L.C. 1916”
as opposed to:
“15 cm Ubts. U. Tbts. K.L 45 in 15 cm Ubts. u. Tbts. L.C 1916” without shield.

Here is a picture of a S113 Torpedoboot (destroyer “Premuda” obtained by Italy from Germany after WW1). We can see the 15 cm gun behind the shield. It can be compared with a picture in Alain’s book showing the gun and its shield underneath a camouflage net.

That's what it looks like. Maybe due to the proximity of the water front and potential direct hits by small caliber weapons.

The uniforms look like those of the Reichswehr. The barrels seem fake (held in elevation by strings) and the turret seems to have been built in concrete and unable to rotate.

Maybe a dummy gun cupola of MKB Skagerrak on Sylt Island in the 20s or early 30s?

turret looks similar to ones i have seen on images of prototype tiger tanks, may be a re-use of one of these.
