The standard K98 ammunition pouches hold only 10 rounds per cell for a total of 30 rounds per pouch. WWII pouches can in no way hold 15 rounds per cell.

I stand corrected. Sorry for the mistake, all clear now. Two 5-round stripper clips per pouch, 3 pouches per side, 6 pouches total...60 rounds carried.

K98 - 6x2=12x5=60rounds + 60rounds in the gas mask container ( they did not use the masks ) + ??? rounds from MG belts if there whas a need
G43 - 6x2=12x10=120rounds + 60rounds in the gas mask container + ??? rounds from MG belts if there whas a need
MP40 - 6x1=6x32=192rounds + x4clips in the gas mask container
STG44 - 6x1=6x30=180rounds + ??? number in the M1944 Backpack
MG34-42 - ??? ... in the squad around 975-1000rounds

PreußensGlanz wrote:I'm interested in the standard ammo loads too, in my case more around the end of the war(1944-45), specifically for the Ardennenoffensive aka Battle of the Bulge:

The "early" values I have are:
98K: 60 + 5 in the rifle
MP 40: 180
StG 44: 180 + 30 in the gun
leMG 42: 2 500
sMG 42: 4750
I'm especially unsure about the light and heavy MGs as the value for the light is still with a 3 men crew instead of the later 2 men crew, also these numbers are from a time were the MG 34 was used and not the MG 42.

Also I wonder if the StG 44 also tended like the Mp 40 to go easily off, in that case one can assume that the weapon was only loaded before action and so a total of 180 would be correct.

Maybe someone can confirm or correct the values for the late war stage.
MP40 use open-bolt (easily go off)...StG40 use tilting bolt

Yes - there is an order in Sturmgewehr referring to the mag capacity for the MP43/44 -
I believe it is 28 rounds -
They don't do well with the mag filled to capacity.
The full-auto capability was for emergency use only -

Re: cartridge pouches, the M1909 Patronentaschen used in WWI did in fact hold three clips with five rounds each so the soldier could carry 90 on his belt. Some may still have been in use here and there in WWII, in second-line units, paramilitary formations, etc.
