M1884/K98 Bayonet Information

#1

Post by brianddodge » 26 Oct 2016, 06:16

Hoping someone can help me out with an M1884/98 bayonet I picked up at a yard sale. I have researched it as much as possible and know the 41 cof on the ricasso means 1941 and cof is the maker code for Carl Eickhorn. The serial number on the other side of the ricasso is 4445 with a letter "n" under it. Was just wondering what the "n" means? Thank you! :D

Since making the post here I found out that this is the 4445th bayonet made in the "n" production in the year 1941. I also cleaned up a little near the pommel and found the Waffenamt code of WaA883 made in Solingen. I never expected to find this at a yard sale in New Hampshire. Wow! Anyone know the value?

Neat find, was there a scabbard, too?
Correct, the 'n' is for the letter block of production in the stated year. They started with the 'a' block, went up to '9999a,' and then on to '1b' and so on.

No scabbard or frog but I have a lot of jealous people right now. Haaaa-Haaaaa I've been told it is worth about 80.00 but going up in value. I am going to make a display case for it and put all the information about it in the display. My son is in the Army and this will be Dad's little gift to him as an heirloom. :D

Well, if someone told you this is worth $80.00 and going up, you better take that opinion with a huge grain of salt. These are quite common, can be found even at local small gun shows, for half your $80.00.
