The same types used then in MP-40s, some PPKs, and used today quite commonly in Berettas and occasionally a Glock. 9mm is a very popular size ammunition in the US Government, having replaced the .45 caliber Colts that were used until about the mid-to-late 80s.

Hope this helped
PPKs use 9mm short ammo not 9mm Parabellum. 9mm Parabellum is the same as 9mm Luger and Parabellum suposely comes from the latin dictate "civis pacis parabellum" which means "if you want peace prepare war", that was also called "Roman Paxis", today it should be called "American Paxis".

The 9mm Parabellum is the calibre for modern military sidearm. All others calibres are just curiosities nowdays.
what do you say about 40S&W? what about the lack of stopping power of 9mm Para when compared to .45 and .40? 9mm are only useful for stopping someone if you hit the head or some place you kill instantly, otherwise the guy will keep on walking and shooting and all the kind of thing you don't want someone you shot to do.

....well, not that it matters. There are at least half dozen as good small calibre chamberings available.

PS. IIRC Mexico is another country where is similar legislation about military calibres.
in brasil you can't have anything superior than .380 or .38spl or in case of semi-auto rifles um to .22LR and no magnum , but one can have a nice full o' punch Winchester '73 .44 rifle (which I do). :D funny laws ain't it?

Hi,

This is old topic. Just one point: The bullet construction is far more important than the calibre. Standard military FMJ is poor stopper in all calibres, also in .45 ACP, compared to modern expanding bullets.

yes, but still when comparing a .45 JHP with a 9mm JHP .45 will have much more stopping power. sorry ab reviving an old topic..
