J.P. Sauer & Sohn

#1

Post by WAHOOMAN » 12 Jan 2011, 06:02

Hello Everyone. I just signed up to this forum. I found this site while researching the J.P. Sauer & Sohn (7.65 Cal.) pistol that was given to me by a family member. Would anyone know if there is a way to match the serial # to the individual/unit to whom it was issued? My Great uncle obtained this pistol from a German prisoner during WW-II. I do not have any details on where (battle/location) the handgun was obtained. The pistol is a 1st Police-variation (highpolish-finish with E/C acceptance mark, serial # 315XXX.) The weapon is in good condition and I have the original holster with the imprint of Otto Sindel, Berlin 1941. I appreaciate any information. Thanks.

It should be marked like in the file attached (some translations added by myself): German certification stamps of fire arms. "Beschusszeichen". The first stamp on yours can be different because those in the list are for rifles (the stamp with the "N"). The other stamps are the same on rifles and hand guns. Year of and location (Beschussamt) where it was tested and certified.

Hi Guys! I just registered also and so far it's pretty neat. I also have a J.P Sauer & Sohn, Suhl 7.65. I also am trying to get information about this pistol. My father took it off a SS Officer during the liberation of Dachau. I haven't seen any that have the lower serial numbers like mine (#1859). The only difference that I see is a button or pin below the safety lever. Mine has it and none of the others seem to have it. The condition is good except for a few scratches around the safety lever. I have shot it several times and it is a fun gun to shoot. It came with a holster that is stamped under the flap "Genschow&Co 1940 Berlin" I don't think it is the original holster for this gun, but that was what he was wearing. If anyone has any info about this pistol, please pass it on. Jim.

Welcome to the forum JR Harley. Your weapon looks very different compared to the one that I own. Mind looks more like a modern day Sig Sauer (P232). I took my J.P. Sauer & Sohn to the range a few weeks ago and it shot well. Had my target out to ten yards. I will attempt to post a photo as soon as I can.

Jim's gun is a Sauer Modell 1913, in caliber .32ACP. This guns was used by several Police Forces during the Imperial, Weimar and Third Reich eras. This models went through an update in 1930, and was phased out of production upon the advent of the Sauer 38H pistol.

WAHOOMAN's Sauer is the 38H Model.

I have a JP Sauer & Sohn, Suhl pistol in 7.65 cal. It is marked 'Original Duralumin'. Serial number 223638. Also has the 'little man' stamping. Is this the update they made in the 1930's? Very little info on the internet about these but they are fun to shoot and being made out of aluminum, they are light.

To dismantle, it is a little different. Depress the rear sight and unscrew the cap on the rear of the bolt, then the bolt can come out and the slide can go forward and off the barrel. The barrel stays attached to the frame. Any historical info would be appreciated. Thanks
