Just got this CAL. 45 Colt 1911 into our collection. Can any of you tell us more about this piece? Story coming with it, was that it was air dropped to the Danish resistance in 1944.

Marked:

PATENTED APR 20. 1897. SEPT.9. 1902
DEC.19. 1905. FEB14. 1911. AUG.19. 1913

COLT’S PT. F. A. MFG. CO.
HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A.

GOVERNMENT MODEL
C 11 633

COLT AUTOMATIC
CALIBRE 45

Tried Google but it turned up a million replies

The serial number prefix C indicates it was originally part of the commercial production (as opposed to part of a US government contract), 11633 indicates it was manufactured in 1914. The rest of it is just specifications of little meaning, except perhaps for the place of manufacture. It MAY have been sold to Canada, but I can't say that with any certainty. Additionally, it may have been refurbished at some point.

It's impossible to say more based on the image and information given, and either way I'm hardly the one to ask. If you want to get an answer you can be sure is accurate, there's always the Colt archival service: http://www.colt.com/CustomerServices/Ar ... vices.aspx
A cheaper option would be: http://forums.1911forum.com/
