Calibers banned by Hitler

#1

Post by shockpick » 30 Apr 2014, 21:25

I recently learned that the sturmgewehr assault weapon was originally under a list of "banned calibers" Imposed by Hitler for the armaments industry. Does anyone know why these certain calibers where band and what other calibers were band?

Thanks

I think, and could be totally wrong, that Germany was experimenting with various improvements in small arms calibers. 7.92x33mm was one of them, but not the only one.

Once the war had started, and since Germany had something like 8,000,000,000,000 rounds of 7.92x57mm rounds on hand, research and development of other calibers was halted to focus resources on immediate war priorities. Of course, as we now know, the StG44 was eventually accepted.
