I never knew of this MG until this thread. It seems quite "modern" for its era, since there weren't that many air-cooled belt-fed LMG's around then.

In a couple of sources I have encountered a mention that during the War of Independence (1918-1920) the Estonian troops had at their disposal a small number of "Bergmann light machine guns". I can only guess that these were the MP-18 submachine guns. Or there existed also Bergmann light machine guns?

The Bergman was 1st used in WWI, in the German's "Michael" Offensive. In 1918, they used groups of storm troopers to attack quickly, then by-pass serious opposition. They carried many flamethrowers, Bergman's (not too many), lots of grenades, light machine-guns, to try to storm the Allied trenches before the USA showed up...
