Dear jt,
Thanks,
Here is a question: What recoil operated semi-automatic rifle did the USMC experiment with prior to adopting the M-1?

Alright, here's my next question: Why was the Sten chambered for 9 millimeter rounds instead of the .303 inch rounds being mass produced for the Lee-Enfields?

Dear jt,
If it was chambered for the .303 rounds it wouldn't be a submachine gun; it would be an automatic rifle like the BAR. The British already had the BREN gun. Besides, it would be interoperable with the 9MM parabellum used in MP 40s.

True. But it could have been chambered with a 7.62, like the French MAS. But you had the correct answer, they could use the Parabellum ammo from the MP40's so they wouldn't have to manufacture as much ammunition as they did for the Lee-Enfields. Over to you again, JT

Dear jt,
What alternative rifle caliber round was used by the British for a machine gun primarily used in tanks? It is not Lend Lease related.

TH-M2, Was it the Besa, which used 7.92 mm instead of .303?
