Abs right according to Janes - FN Browning GP-35 (HP) is most widely adopted automaticpistol ever. Nextone was sovjet Makarov. But all the others come far behind - tells something about quality of the design.

Its the 7.65mm Browning Star 1914 "Troop type", the main French sidearm of the World Wars.
