It looks like Russian Maxim m1910 or m1905 with some German modifications (flash-hider). Noting the difference in between m1905 and m1910 is not exactly easy from black-and-white photo, since the main difference between the two were certain parts manufacturer either from bronze or steel. The machinegun-mount shown in the photo is early version of Sokolov-mount.

Hi

I have a question concerning the smg you can see in this picture:

http://wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/ ... .html?i=10

Is this a suomi?

PLZ help with this riddle.

Welcome to forum. Yes, it seems to be Suomi submachine gun. It is also rather commonly known that Stroop's SS-troops had Suomi submachine guns among their weaponry from other photos taken during uprising of Warsaw Ghetto.

Jarkko

Hi Jarkko,

Thank you for your answer. Suomi was my first guess and it fits from the factual point of view (was used by SS during the Ghetto Uprising) and this looks like KP/-31 SJR (suujarru, or "muzzle brake") version. Noneheless, there is a part of the barrel shroud missing (compare it with a photo on this website - http://www.2jager.com/submachine.htm) no Copyright infringement intended.
And if you look closely at the section of the gun between the magazine and the muzzle brake you will notice that it is different from the "regular" suomi. Notice the groove immediatelly above the magazine (in the forend of the butt) which extends towards the butt. Again, this is inconsistent with the pictures I have seen.

Any thouths anyone?

The "missing" part of the barrel shroud is there, but the angle makes the camera see through two pairs of vents in the barrel shroud. The overexposed background make the vents appear larger than they are and "cover" the thin metal the shroud is made of.

Immediately above the magazine you can see the leather sling of the gun. He appears to be carrying both the gun and the strap over his left shoulder, presumably held up by the left hand. In his right hand are a pair of binoculars with a carrying strap reaching around his neck beneath the collar of his coat, but the protective cover for the objective lens sticks out.

Hope it clarifies the matter.

Hi Sturm,

Scotti 7,7 mm aircraft MG (M1932?) maybe; Possibly a 12,7 mm Scotti. Haven't seen a good comparison shot from the left for either calibre.
