I just registered and found a lot of fascinating pictures. The weapon in this picture, however, is not a Polish anti-tank rifle but a - seemingly brand new - German Panzerbüchse 39, with its shet metal cartridge holder clearly visible. I am one of the authors of The Propaganda Photo Series. The latest volume of these books treats German anti-tank weapons. Wonderful picture!

The maxim MG was hardly used by the german army due to its weight and accuracy, rare photo there :)

Actually there are some pics of german troops with the Maxim MG in this thread.
But here is the question if they are only posing for a photo. (?)

I've found this photo, but I don't really know if they are germans with a captured Thompson or are they americans with a captured SS uniform (note the U.S. helmet on the back) quite a mistery hehe I hope some of you guys could help me.

Well on the eastern front when your starved of ammunition, especially with the high rate of fire from MG34 and MG42s, and theres plenty of ammo to be stripped off dead russian soldiers and tanks, it sure helps and i think would have been not to rare a sight but of course would prefer a 42 or a 34.

DeCicco, the picture is of American soldiers rushing a hitler youth soldier prisoner off the battle ground.

Keep the kool pictures goin!

Ah I see, I was reading a book about the german army and it said that it was not used due to the weight and accuracy but now I see it that way, its a good idea. Do you reckon they had to use the maxim only when the russian front was collapsing (causing a major lack of supplies) or at the start of the war in Russia?

thanks,
Baumer
