Which v Gersdorff

Postby Elwyn W on 29 Jul 2012 20:56

I had conveniently assumed Pic #2 and Pic # 3 as the sächsischer GenLt Georg v Gersdorff because of the Albert Order and one of the pics taken in Dresden.

But today I came aross a new one who did not resemble Pics #2 and #3 at all from Bildarchiv Preussicher Kulturbesitz. Ths man seems to have the St Heinrich Commander class dangling down his neck. Even though this site is full of mistakes in its captions, this then must be Gerog v Gersdorff.

Who would Pic #2 and # 3 be among the plethora of v Gerdorff's?

Cheers

Elwyn,

The top two portraits are of Egon v. Gersdorff.

Elwyn,

if the bottom phtograph is of Georg v. Gersdorff (I don't have a comparison photograph), then it must be prewar as he is still wearing a peacetime Überrock and his neck decoration is the Commander's Cross 2nd Class of the Saxon Merit Order as gazetted on 21 May 1914. At that time he was commanding the 5. Infanterie-Brigade Nr. 63.

Thank you as always Glenn. Ah yes, the elusive Saxon Egon. Hmm the Komturkreuz of the Verdienstkreuz really looked like the St Heinrich in a blurry black and white pic.
