I'm still not comfortable identifying uniforms but until someone more knowledgeable comes along my suggestion would be:

military, but not an infantry regiment

taken late 1800s

I'd like to identify the uniform, unit and any useful information about this gentleman. He is the great grandfather of a very good friend of mine.
He'd be really thrilled if any information could be found
Thanks in advance

If this a scan from the original is there anything on the reverse? To me it looks as though the photo was taken well before WWI, possibly late 1870s or the 1880s.

The High Boots, open face buckle & belt and Sword is typical for Mounted Personnel.... and only a few Imperial "units" had a black/very dark for their "hat band" color.... certian Dragoon Regt.s, certian Hussar Regt.s, Feld u. Fuss. Regts, etc. .....(any of the other colors used wouldn't show this "black" in photos...) some Bayer. Regts. also.... but pinning down much more will be difficult if this is all you have... no detail showing...

If you knew what part of Germany (Prussia/Bavaria/Hesse...etc.) might help narrow it down alittle more.

Great WW 1/early postwar US Army Photo.... especially showing a Black Musician included in the band... (notice he also has stripes on his sleeve, too!)... any other information? This would have been quite unusual in 1918/19....
Thanks for sharing.

Looking for information about this uniform, appears to be a chaplain's uniform. Not sure this is German but the man in the photo may have come to the US from Prussia.

Uniform is Masonic, not military.... U.S. Fraternal Organization 1880s/1900 era.

This is a photo of my grand uncle Ernest Eggert. Can anyone assist in figuring the unit he served with?

Many, many thanks!

I just discovered a trove of photos of my relatives during the First World War. Below is one of my grand aunt's husband Ted Frommke.

Any chance that anyone can assist in identifying his uniform?

Cheers!

Last one I promise! Any assistance identifying this photo from the First World War (1917) would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry if this is an inappropriate use of this forum but I was looking for some help in identifying a WW1 German aviator tunic and pants I recently found at a swap meet. As a collector of WW2 military I am pretty confident of their authenticity but still lack any real knowledge about these items. I am unable to attach the pictures I have as the files are too large. If anyone can assist and message me an email address that I could send them to I would love to get some feedback. Thank you.

Chuck
