Here are some german memoirs that provide some personal insights

by Herbert Sulzbach
http://www.amazon.com/With-German-Guns- ... 1844150194
A First World War memoir of a German artillery soldier. A best seller when published in the 1930s , but withdrawn when the Jewish religion of the author was revealed. War Stories of a great man who did much for post ww2 reconciliation between Britons and Germans
Storm of Steel (Penguin Classics) by Ernst Jünger memoir by officer from the 73rd(?) Hannoverian Regiment, included his experiences on the Siomme in 1916 and as a storm trooper in 1918. http://www.amazon.com/Storm-Steel-Pengu ... 024&sr=1-1
The Advance from Mons 1914 Walter Bloem http://www.amazon.co.uk/Advance-Mons-19 ... 1907677046 The famous accounts of the Germans from Mons to the Aisne are taken from this
Erwin Rommel The Infantry Attacks http://www.amazon.co.uk/Infantry-Attack ... ry+attacks Or how I won the Pour le Merit. This is the rather egotistical memoir which was recommended reading for Rommel's students when he was an instructor at the school of mountain infantry and probably the Kreigschule. It tells the story of the lessons Rommel learned from each of his WW1 battles. The accounts of a fighting patrol are far better than that used at RMAS!
Scorched Earth, The German army on the Somme 1914-18 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scorched-Earth- ... inw_strp_1 A collection of German memoirs of their experiences.
Forgotten Divisions: First World War, Both Sides of No Man's Land [Paperback]
