Does anyone recognize this person?

#1

Post by SAJ » 13 Jul 2007, 04:04

Hello everyone,
I just recently purchased a photo postcard of this person and I wanted to see if anyone knew who he was. The back of the postcard has a handwritten notation saying something like " Gen. de. Elsa. 24 decorations" I just wanted to see if anyone had any information on him.
Thank You !

Gen. Inf. later Generaloberst Karl Ludwig d'Elsa

Saxon colonel general who at war's outbreak was in command of XII. Corps, attached to Hausen's Third Army. In the spring of 1916 he was given command of Army Detachment "A" but was placed on inactive reserve status in early 1917. After the armistice, the allies wanted d'Elsa tried as a war criminal for his alleged role in atrocities committed against Belgian civilians.

Attached is one of my photos of General d'Esla. I discovered your post and photo when I was doing research on him yesterday. Your last post was in 2009, are you still in the forum? If so please respond. Do you still have your photo?
Cheers...vonkrosigk
