Schröder brothers

#1

Post by Dave Danner » 05 Mar 2014, 22:21

Hi,

I have a pair of twin brothers, with that all too common name, who were both Majors in 1919, but little idea where they were before. They were born in Varel on 31 May 1867. They are:

- Fritz, Major und Bezirks-Offizier in Solingen
- Hermann, Major a.D. in Eltville am Rhein

Fritz's son Harry was a Leutnant in FAR 22 and died of wounds on 31.1.15 while with IR 158. So I suppose Fritz might have been the Maj. Schröder in FAR 22.

There is a Maj.a.D. Hermann Schröder in the Ehrenrangliste, but no unit is given, so I can't tell if he was a.D. before the war, or active and then released during the war. Or even if it is the same Hermann Schröder.

Thanks for any assistance,
Dave

EDIT TO ADD: Hermann's daughter was born in Wesel on 19.12.1893, so he was likely a Sek.Lt. there at the time.

Dave,

I have a Fritz Schröder as Abtl. Kom. in FAR 22 in 1914. His name comes from the Ordensliste, but I have no birthdate. He was promoted Sek.Lt. in FAR 7 on 15.01.1889. IF you want his career, just let me know.

There was a Hermann Schröder promoted Sek.Lt. in FAR 7 (garrisoned in Wesel) on 21.09.1889. He was transferred to FAR 44 on 16.02.1901 as an ern. Hptm. He then went z.D. on 22.05.1909 as a Bez. Offiz. in Landw. Bez. I Dortmund. He retired as a Major on 20.05.1913. His name too comes form the Ordensliste 1905 (7. Nachtrag).

I think it is safe to say these are your twin brothers born on 31.05.1867- thanks for that date!

Andy

FAR22's history (p.26) states that I.Abt. commander (ie. Schröder) became ill and was replaced by Hptm. Hüger (c. Oct. 27, 1914).

Ltn. Schröder was transferred on Nov. 14, 1914. He was with 3/IR158 when he died on Jan. 31, 1915 at Aubers, buried at Fourners, then reinterred at the regiment's burial ground at Gondecourt.
