What headgear did German officers wear to battle?

What headgear did German officers wear to battle?

Did they wear a regular, visor less feldmutze or did they wear visor caps? Or something else?

Hello!
German officers had to buy their uniform. So no-one would appear with visorless cap like the simple soldiers...
They had a visor cap in a better quality. But to battle they normally did wear their steel-helmet (or before 1916/17 the spiked helmet)

I don't have the competence to argue your answer in general, but don't think that the officers avoided the visorless caps that much...

Well, but your photo is taken in WW2.

My mistake, sorry! Although the thread itself is not labelled as Imperial Germany the section / bunch of threads clearly is.
