Hi

This is long shot. I have an Hptm Karl Maaß who survived the War.

Could he be the Hptm x Maaß from IR 170 ?

Hi Gunnar,
A long shot indeed. A Karl Maas (without double-s and without rank or unit) was reported as seriously injured by an accident in about October 1916.
He is reported as being from Duisburg. There is a chance that he is the same man....

By the way, back in 2010 you mentioned a Hptm Gabriel of FFA 49 on Frontflieger's website. I have found an Oblt Kurt Gabriel from Neisse (?) in IR 74 who was wounded in 1914. And a Major with the same name born 8th Nov 1883 and died in 1933. Could be the man you are looking for?

Hi Matt

I have seen only a few example when officers in the loss-list not are mentioned with rank. And if so it often comes with a later "correction".
So I dont think he is wanted man.

Instead I do think that Karl Maaß (Maass) might had his roots in the German town Kattowitz. But I have been unable to find any confirmation of that so far.

Hi Matt

Regarding Karl Gabriel who was promoted Major 200918 I have been able to find an personal file for him.
I also have copies of some letters he wrote after the War when he tried to receive the Err.Abz.
He was born 1879.

:)
