Imperial Ministerialbeamte

#1

Post by askropp » 11 Aug 2015, 10:43

Is somebody well versed in the various grades of the Imperial Ministerialbeamten? In Hildebrand / Henriot ("Deutschlands Admirale"), I found the following grades (in ascending order):

Admiralitätsrat
Wirklicher Admiralitätsrat
Geheimer Admiralitätsrat
Wirklicher Geheimer Admiralitätsrat
Wirklicher Geheimer Rat (Exzellenz)

(Instead of "Admiralitätsrat", many other professions could also be used, like "Baurat", "Justizrat" etc.)

Trying to translate those grades into the modern system used since the Weimar Republic, I assume the following equivalents:

Admiralitätsrat = Regierungsrat (Major / Korvettenkapitän)
Wirklicher Admiralitätsrat = Oberregierungsrat (Oberstleutnant / Fregattenkapitän)
Geheimer Admiralitätsrat = Regierungsdirektor / Ministerialrat (Oberst / Kapitän zur See)
Wirklicher Geheimer Admiralitätsrat = Ministerialdirigent (Generalmajor / Konteradmiral)
Wirklicher Geheimer Rat (Exzellenz) = Ministerialdirektor (Generalleutnant / Vizeadmiral)

Can anybody confirm or correct these assumptions?

The subject of officials is a bit of a minefield! However, your basic assumptions are correct. Prussian/Reich officials were ranked in five grades with a further senior grade ranking senior to the 1st Class, those officials with the predicate "Excellenz" such as the Staatsminister, Oberpräsidenten and Wirkliche Geheimer Räte.

1st Class: Wirkl. Geh. Regierungsräte/Wirkl. Geh. Admiralitätsräte/Wirkl. Geh. Ober-Bauräte etc.
2nd Class: Geh. Oberregierungsräte/Geh. Admiralitätsräte/Geh. Marine-Baurat etc.
3rd Class: Geh. Regierungsräte/Wirkl. Admiralitätsräte/Marine-Ober-Bauräte etc.
4th Class: Regierungsräte/Admiralitätsräte/Marine-Bauräte etc.

Regards
Glenn
