Hello to all ; something dealing with this unit.......................
The Feldflieger-Abteilung 2 in the Great War.
AFAIK this unit had its home station at the airfield of Metz-Frescaty, located about five kilometers from the city of Metz between the Castle of Frescaty and Augny. By the summer of 1914 the airfield was also garrison of Festungsflieger-Abteilung 1 and the Feldluftschiffer-Trupps 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22 (squadrons of observation balloons). At the beginning of the war the Feldfl. Abt. 2 was in command of Hptm. Kirch and remained in Metz-Frescaty within the framework of the 5. Armee (Kronprinz Wilhelm).

Re: Feldflieger-Abteilung 2.
Hi
That photo of FFA 2 at Metz dated 230814 is "interesting" as the unit actually had left Metz two weeks earlier..
And von Holy was never commander of that unit.

Re: Feldflieger-Abteilung 2.
Hi
When the War started there were two operational flying units at Metz, the first FFA 2 moved to the front after a week while the other I FeFA Metz stayed seven weeks before being renamed and moving to front.
For me it is difficult to see what the photo really shows, but I see lots of lorries/vehicles so maybe it could show when FFA 2 left Metz ?
If so the photo is mis-dated.
I do think that the photo-album for sale on ebay.de was assembled after the War so therefore it contain some wrong labeling s but it still have a "fair" time line.
