Hptm Majewski IR 43
Hptm Majewski IR 43
Hi
I am searching an possible first name and date and place of birth for Hptm Majewski from IR 43.
I am not certain he is my wanted man but probably he is. It lived an Oberst aD Walther Majewski in Berlin around 1940, could it be him ?

Re: Hptm Majewski IR 43
Hi Andy
That makes Walther as possible to be the IR 43 officer, but maybe one or two Year too young ?
But there always exist exceptions regarding age versus promotion cycle. One problem here is that Majewski is an common name.

Re: Hptm Majewski IR 43
Hi Gunnar,
Andy is correct. Walther Majewski entered IR 43 as a 17-year old Fahnenjunker on 5.3.04 and was promoted to Lt. on 18.8.05 with a Patent of 17.2.04. He was promoted to Hptm. on 24.12.14, and was still a Hptm. in the 1919 Dienstaltersliste. I suppose that he was quite young when he entered the Army, especially for an Abiturient rather than a cadet, but his promotion to Hauptmann was along with most of the other 17.2.04 Leutnants, so not early.
He received the Austro-Hungarian Military Merit Cross as a Hptm.i.G., Pion.-Gen.-Kdo. According to the Ehrenrangliste, his last wartime assignment was on the staff of the Besatzungsheer in Romania.
He was indeed an Oberst a.D., but not from the Army. In the 1933 Polizei-Dienstaltersliste, he was listed as a Polizei-Oberst (RDA 20.12.29) in the Polizei-Abteilung of the Prussian Interior Ministry.

Hi Gunnar,
Do you know what flying unit he was in? Was it FFA 14 ?
Thanks,
Matt.

Re: Hptm Majewski IR 43
Hi Matt
I am rather certain that he is the Oblt Majewski who started the War as aerial observer in FFA 14. FFA 14 was formed out of FB 2/3 Königsberg which fits the area for his Regiment. In early 1915 he was transferred to FFA 16 (also within 8 Army). Then I lost the track of him but he probably went back to the Army at an uncertain date.
