[August von Mackensen] - (1849 - 1945)
Here are some interesting pictures of who in my eyes was one of the greatest soldiers ever.

Very nice pictures moulded - I've never seen them before. It seems quite hard to find pictures of him. There's something so enigmatic about this Soldier.
Here's one from a 14-18 German/American Reveue called Deutsch Amerika, a friend sent me it yesterday.

Here is a wallpaper that I made of Von Mackensen. The noisy effect is normal & not due to bad jpeg compression.
I have it on my desktop at the moment.
(I have a larger version - 1024 x 768 if anyone wants it).

inkhussar -- Your collection of Field Marshal von Mackensen illustrations is very impressive. Here is one I found, which you may not have. It was used as the frontispiece for The Story of the Great War, vol. XI, P.F. Collier & Son, New York: 1917. The caption reads:
"General von Mackensen, the famous German commander who led the Teuton forces to victory in Galicia and Serbia, is pictured here with his staff in Rumania. His army rapidly overran the Dobrudja and pressed on to Bucharest, which fell on December 6, 1916."

Churchill at the Kaiser manoeuvres Silesia 1909.

Corbis state that the guy in the Hussar uniform is Mackensen.

Nice photograph but unfortunately not the then General der Kavallerie August von Mackensen. The hussar officer is wearing the uniform of the Braunschweigisches Husaren-Regiment Nr. 17 and not that of the 1. Leib-Husaren-Regiment of which von Mackensen was à la suite and which uniform he invariably wore. The pattern of skull on the busby is different for the two regiments. That of the former being somewhat higher with longer extended crossed bones as in this photograph.

Regards
Glenn

Thanks Glenn...something about the supposed 'Mackensen',his frame for example, just didn't look right.

Here's the more majestic real FM von Mackensen reviewing troops Lublin July 1915.
