German Colonies - Models, Figures, Dioramas, Graphics . . . and more
Let´s start of a new thread where we can collect Informations from and for model-makers about German Colonies.
Everybody is welcomed, also with side issues and unusual contributions, for example like this:
• Modell of the Courland `Fort Jacob´ 1651 on the `Sankt Andreas Island´ in the Gambia River / West Africa.
• The Frigate `Goldener Löwe´ 1694 at the Brandenburg-Prussian Colony on `St. Thomas´ Island in the Caribbean.
• First Train on the completed Railway Bridge in 1911 over the river Sanaga in German Cameroon.
• Diorama of the Battle representation with the first counter attack on Taveta 1914 near Kilimanjaro in GEA.

25 years before nearly nobody knows this still existing steamer. Now it´s worth to make a summary of the models.

The Gun-set with different calibres are also offered as resin weapons pack in the same scale. Regarding
both included Koenigsberg guns, the upper should be the 8,8-cm SK and the bottom the 10,5-cm SK. The
10,5-cm-SK appears to be well done, but the navy-mount M.P.L. C 89 of the 8,8-cm SK looked differently.

Look only at the cut portholes; incredible! The outer diameter is 4mm!!! Also the position point of the rope ladders.

The ridge sharpness and fit accuracy of the paper edges makes clear by laser cutting paper sheets.

Look at the rudder blade! Really only paper work? But the propellers are clear from another material!

Thanks for opening this thread, Holger. I recently made a German East African Askari, from an Airfix 1/32 Japanese WW2 Infantryman, with a Lee Enfield rifle from the Airfix 8th Army Multipose set, the rifle strap is from plasticard and the tarbush and blanket across the back is sculpted from Miliput.
Hope you like it, there's a few similar projects that I'm also working on...

Here's the process of making this SMS Koenigsberg railway mounted gun that I built for my kid's OO gauge model train layout.

So, now you have started with a Königsberg-gun-diorama. The shown preliminary assembly indicate a 10,5 cm or 12,8 cm Railway AA gun?!? Seems to be scale 1:72. Really impressive.
Let me look which track width have been these rails. I believe it wasn´t the Standard at the North- or central Railway lines. But currently I have still no access to my books.
For me would be also interesting to know if they would have used any small locomotive for the, up to 5 km long line? As far as I can remember the whole material comes from a Plantation / farm in the surrounding area.

Haha! Yes, the Young Indiana episode. Great to see German East Africa getting a mention in Hollywood but the uniform mistakes in that drove me crazy!

They asked my advice on the uniform details while in production for that one so I can't complain that they're wrong this time! They also kindly sent me one of the models when it was finished so I thought I had better try to make it...
The railway gun was based on The Koenigsberg gun at Kahe, but I obviously resized to fit on my son's 00 Gauge track. I don't think they used a loco on the tracks for gun- please correct me if I'm wrong. I think they used African porters or possibly oxen to change the gun's position?
I've got a couple more figures in the making, I'll post them up here when they're finished...
