German NCo with one button in collar?

Postby Cristiano de S.O Campos on 12 Jan 2008 13:29

Look these photo found in Ebay, one german Vize-Feldwebel wearing one button in the collar, like gefreiter.

Which rank, Gefreiter or Vize-Feldwebel?

It is a sergeant. Only the NCO´s had chevrons and two of them stands for a sergeant.

Best wishes

Ahoj!
Only one concarde? I thought everybody had two - "federal" and "national".
Or is he - judging by the hats of the men in the background - SWA Schutztruppen?
And I see three chevrons - or am I uneducated?

No "Land" there, just service for the Reich, one cockade is enough.

Yes, Schutztruppe as you guessed. As Mad Zeppelin says only the imperial cockade for the Schutztruppe.

Yes, the attached chevron has three strips but the chevron in the photo seems to have two for a sergeant as Karsten says.

The curious point here as Cristiano says is the collar button. Usually the Schutztruppe did not wear rank collar buttons except in the case of a single small button for a Gefreiter. But this guy seems to have the large button of a sergeant as well as the chevrons to display his rank. I'll have to check some other photos too. Maybe collar buttons were worn as standard on the Kord Litewka (as worn by this guy).
