Hi Peter,
Thanks for pointing that out.

Just to let everyone know there's been some updates there recently. It still covers the uniforms of the German Colonies during and immediately prior to the First Wortld War. New updates include a large section of uniforms of the Germans and Austrians fighting on Ottoman Fronts, a section on German Marines on the Western Front and some photos of uniform items from the Royal Army Museum in Brussels.
The website is being constantly updated, so I'll post back here to let you all know.
Cheers
Chris

I've put some new updates up at http://www.germancolonialuniforms.co.uk/
There's a new page of photos take in Namibia in 1990 of old Schutztruppe battlefields, forts. memorials and some items fro the now removed display at Swakopmund museum.
There's a couple of new pages on Uniforms of the German East Asian Expeditionary Corps and I've also added an interesting fact that Peter H mentioned on this forum about Cameroon aircraft, thanks again for that one Peter!
Cheers
Chris

The main reliable sources for material about the uniforms of the Schutztruppen are:

„Das Deutsche Heer - Friedensuniformen bei Ausbruch des Weltkrieges“
Knötel/Pietsch/Baron Collas, 2.Auflage Spemann, Stuttgart 1982

„Die Deutschen Schutztruppen in Afrika in ihrer gegenwärtigen Uniformierung“
LTR-Verlag, Starnberg 1989 (Nachdruck der Ausgabe Leipzig 1899)

A lot of material from this sources can be found at:

http://www.traditionsverband.de/

Just click on "Schutztruppe" on the bar on the left side to find it.

My website at http://www.germancolonialuniforms.co.uk is now two years old. Thanks to everyone who has helped out and emailed advice and encouragement over this second year and especially to the members of this forum who have been so informative.

The latest update to this website is a Militaria Collection from Port Arthur prior to the Russo-Japanese War. It includes items from the SMS Iltis, SMS Jaguar, SMS Kaiserin Elisabeth and the German East Asian Expeditionary Corps. Thanks very much to the owner of this private collection for sharing his photographs with us.

Another update is that I've started including biographical details on some of the illustrations where I have managed to identify the individual in the photograph on which the illustration is based (again thanks to the members of this forum for the help). Hopefully this adds a flavour of background information. I've also updated lots of small bits all over the website in a quest to keep this website as accurate and informative as possible.

Cheers
Chris

I've added a page of photos from two South African Museums taken by the very helpful MC Heunis to the website at http://www.germancolonialuniforms.co.uk . So far the photos include a German South West African Schutztruppe tunic, some native pass tokens from South West Africa and a border marker that used to stand between German South West Africa and British South Africa. More photos are hoped to be soon added to this collection.

And a couple of weeks ago I added a photo of a Schutztruppe saddle owned by the Doppler Collection to the page on Mounted Equipment.
Cheers
Chris
