Hint #2,

"On February 26, 1944 the Gestapo arrested her along with 140 other members of the escape network. She was interrogated and tortured in Fresnes prison in Paris, then shipped in a railway cattle car to the Ravensbrück concentration camp in Germany.

At Ravensbrück she was kept in horrific conditions, subjected to beatings, and used as slave labor. On February 17, 1945, she died of malnutrition in a Ravensbrück sub camp a few days after being liberated by Soviet troops."

Last name starts with "W".

Nex Question: She began training as a watchmaker in 1920 and in 1922 became the first female watchmaker licensed in the Netherlands. In 1923, she helped organize girls' clubs, and in the 1930s these clubs grew to become the very large Triangle club. In 1940, the Nazis invaded the Netherlands and banned her clubs. By 1942, she and her family had become very active in the Dutch underground, hiding refugees. Who was she?

Good morning Robb,

Let me try one.

This person had been a member of an allied army but forced to flee army.

He served as a secret agent.

He helped organize resistance to the Japanese.

By education, he was an electrical engineer.

By career, less military and intelligence experience, he was a novelist.

One of his awards was the Medal of the Resistance.

He is identified with a bridge over a river.

.....

Warm regards,

Bob

Good morning all,

The name of the mystery resistance fighter is Pierre Boulle.

Pierre Boulle wrote the novel "The Bridge Over The River Kwai" (1954). He also wrote, among other works, "Planet Of The Apes" (1963). His wartime memoir is "My Own river Kwai" (1967).

He was born in Avignon, France and in 1939 joined the French Army in Indochina. After the fall of France he fled to Singapore where he joined the Free French.

His River Kwai novel was made into a film.

Kanchanaburi Military Cemetery, Thailand, is next to the Bridge remnants.

Mr Boulle was an officer of the Legion of Honor, a recipient of the Croix de Guerre and the Medal of the Resistance.

He died January, 1994.

........

Warm regards,
