Spanish 120mm mortar tested by the Italian Army during WWII

Postby Ironmachine on 03 Aug 2012 07:08

In the SCW section, another forum member (Sturm78) posted this:
My source is the book "Le Armi della Fanteria Italiana (1919-1945)" of Nicola Pignato and Filippo Cappellano.

Anyone knows anything else about this? How the mortar(s?) were obtained, dates of the trials, results, etc?
Thanks.

these are the dates for the mortar:

Mortero Franco.:
Calibre: 120 mm
Peso: 848 kgs.
Alcance máximo: 6.400 m
Radio de acción de la granada: 150 m
Velocidad de tiro: 3 d/m

Here a picture of the weapon, from the same book:

The Cappellano\Pignato book don't say anything about the trials. The weapon chosen after the trials (that involved the Brandt model, the SASIB, the model from the Servizio tecnico dell'Esercito) was the SASIB, ordered in 500 pieces.

 I was asking about the dates (that is, when; when was the mortar obtained, when were the trials made, etc.), not about the mortar's data, which I already knew.

The Cappellano\Pignato book don't say anything about the trials

I supposed so, but I was asking for information from different sources.

Anyway, thank you for the picture.
Regards.

I think some data will be interesting for the Forum, because the weapon is surely not well known.

Surely; however, I had already presented that same data (and much more information about this mortar) in the thread about Spanish mortars in the SCW section, so if anyone is interested, take a look there.
Regards.
