identification italian officer
Certainly that man is not Starace (a too maligned man, IMHO, and certainly not a coward: during WW1, well before becoming an important political leader, he got a silver medal for military valour, 4 bronze medals, 2 war crosses, the Croix de Guerre, two promotions for war merits and became knight of the Order of Savoy; there is a recent and honest biography of him: http://www.storiainrete.com/recensione/starace/).
But I don't think that man is Galbiati too; photo of Galbiati:

Thanks FB and DrG for your answer !!
DrG do you perhaps know if many italian facistleaders/ministers visited Dortmund before and during WWII ?? The problem is that i don't have a date when the picture was taken, so i can't give a exact period.
FB it was not a verry silly question but RAD means Reichs Arbeits Dienst.
Thanks in advance,
Mulisch

I can solve the trouble. Note that there is an hole in the photo exactly on the arm of the man facing the fascist (Starace?). Someone tried to hide his identity, but he did an error: the cover of the engine is mirror-alike! this is the final result. Ustascià!FB wrote:That's a possibility. Maybe you if have also a date for this visit in Dortmund, someone could for instance check the Italian Government composition at that date and see what comes up. And I have a (very silly, excuse me) question: what does RAD mean?mulisch wrote:Thanks for your answer zaptiè !!!
So it's verry dificult to indentify this man on his uniform, i know now that this picture was taken in Dortmund and it says that he was a minister.
Is there perhaps any info that a facistleader/minister was visiting RAD man in Dortmund ????
Thanks in advance,
Mulisch

Re: identification italian officer
1st on the right looks like Italo Gariboldi, with Annibale Bergonzoli between him and Rommel.

Hi VJK,
Thanks for your reply. I agree about Gariboldi but Bergonzoli was captured by the British on 7 February 1941. Cheers, Dave
