Does anyone have any details on how many Italian voluteers were used when forming 4. Fallschirmjäger-Division and which units they came from within 184. Parachutist Division Nembo and 185. Parachutist Division Folgore?

Thanks.

Mostly likely men from "Nembo" as the "Folgore" was more or less destroyed in Africa except for the regiment which became the core for Nembo.

This link(in Italian) explains a lot:

http://digilander.libero.it/historiabis/paraita6.htm

From what I can gather:

9th February 1944-Germans request Italian assistance in Anzio battle.

Nembo Independent Battalion(6 platoons 350 men) under Captain Corradino Alvino allocated.Departs Spoleto 11th February 1944.

Re-equipped with German MGs and carbines, grenades.

Anzio 16th February Offensive—Nettuno.The 6 Platoons divided between the 3 German FJ Regiments of 4FJD.Intense fighting.Italians suffer 74 killed,90 wounded—only 149 survivors,incl 3 officers left.

16th March 1944-remnants form the 100 man Nembo-Nettuno company.Re-enters line with with FJR11 near Moletta.

23rd May 1944-men of Nembo-Nettuno Co near Moletta assist in rescuing a cut off FJ unit

2nd June-Anzio withdrawal ,Near Ardea with FJR12.

In late May 1944 the 1441 man Folgore Regiment also assists the Germans south of Rome.Assists 4FJD.Effectively destroyed with 113 killed,120 wounded,709 captured, missing.

OKW Bulletin 10th June 1944—"4FJD with the effective support of the Rgt Folgore distinguished itself in the fighting near Rome."

My understanding is that the 600 survivors of both Folgore and Nembo were used to reform RSI formations in the autumn of 1944. 2° Nembo was reformed at Lanzo, part of the new Folgore Regt late 1944.

Interesting! Did those Italian volunteers make any parachute jump (training or combat) when they served in Fallshirmjäger units?
